The Toyota FJ Cruiser, was first introduced as a concept at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show as an off-road vehicle for the Americas. It featured a short wheelbase, stocky frame, and grill headlights much like the original FJ40 Land Cruisers. Other throwback design cues include a nearly vertical windshield with three windshield wipers for maximum surface area coverage. Special high-strength steel was used to give the vehicle side impact protection without the need for a door pillar. All interior surfaces are covered with washable rubber materials to aid in fast cleanup after heavy outdoor use. The FJ Cruiser also incorporates oversized controls to aid drivers with gloved hands. On 5 November 2013, Toyota USA announced the 2014 model year would be the last for the FJ Cruiser in the US market. With that announcement, Toyota decided to end the FJ Cruiser legacy with a bang, creating the Trail Teams Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition was built to celebrate the FJ40 Land Cruiser. It was released in a unique Heritage Blue color reminiscent of the classic FJ40 blue color to which the Ultimate Edition pays much of its design cues from. The body color was monochromatic as with all Trail Teams models rather than having the traditional white roof, and the bumpers, mirrors, and door handles were again blacked out. To add uniqueness to this Ultimate Edition, a special aluminum badge for the dash that states "Ultimate Edition: Limited Production One of 2,500".



Although never officially confirmed by Toyota, the speculation among FJ interest groups across the Internet is that only 250 of 2,500 TTUEs were built with a 6-speed manual transmission, making this Ultimate Edition exceedingly rare. It has 33,195 miles and comes from a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 260 hp and 271 lb.-ft of torque.This vehiclealso has an aftermarket front bumper mounted with a wireless SMITTYBILT front winch. No other modifications have been made to the vehicle.



The Ultimate Edition includes the standard interior features such as keyless remote entry, multi-informational dash gauges, a rear 115V/400W AC power outlet, cruise control, leather trimmed steering wheel, rear wiper, privacy glass, Bluetooth, and satellite radio. Additionally, the seating fabric inserts are color matched to coordinate with the Ultimate Edition's unique silver/black interior, rather than the exterior color as in previous years. The Ultimate Edition also introduced some new, one-of-a-kind features. For one, the Ultimate Edition included a special 1/4-inch-thick aluminum TRD skid plate to provide maximum protection while retaining maximum approach angle clearance. Another upgrade included all new TRD-tuned Bilstein shocks that were designed to increase articulation and provide added high-speed stability for off-road terrain. Gearing is crucial in any off-road machine and the Ultimate Edition uses a 3.727:1 rear-end axle ratio, along with a transfer case that includes a 2.56:1 low gear with TRD shift knob located in the center console, sitting adjacent to another TRD knob that controls the transfer case.The front suspension on the Ultimate Edition has standard style 60 mm shocks but the 50 mm rear shocks are fitted with remote oil reservoirs for larger oil capacity to decrease damping fade when used in very rigorous situations. Toyota also employs larger, red TRD race coil springs in the front suspension to level out the front end of the Ultimate Edition for an improved approach angle. The Ultimate Edition, like the 2013 and 2010 Special Editions, has TRD's bead lock style 16" alloy wheels but in a new grey finish, the only Toyota model to use this specific wheel. These are wrapped with 265/75R16 BF Goodrich AT tires like all other special editions.
