I purchased this classic 1972 Mercedes Benz 280SE 4.5 from Bavarian Motorsport on April 29th 2017 and have immensely enjoyed it for the last several years before consigning it here on December 8th, 2022. The vehicle has a wonderful provenance, originating with its purchase from Mercedes Benz of Hollywood on May 4th, 1972. The original owner was a UCLA professor and prominent medical doctor who meticulously chronicled every conceivable aspect of the car, from its original specifications, European delivery logistics, to years of dedicated care and exacting maintenance. The preserved documentation begins with an intimate story of a seemingly bygone era of truly exceptional service and a dialogue between the dealer in Hollywood, Mercedes Benz in Germany and all the logistic teams in between who made his European delivery experience so rewarding and memorable. The personal accounts are further amplified by his many handwritten notes, including hotel arrangements in Frankfurt and travel brochures from the Mercedes Benz factory in Stuttgart highlighting their first-class accommodations and concierge services. A comprehensive (60 plus page), sequentially ordered binder will accompany the sale of the vehicle, including all the above correspondences, documentation, and maintenance receipts dating back to September 26th, 1972. As the second owner of the vehicle, I have striven to honor the legacy of the former owner and his efforts to preserve the integrity of the car over his many years of ownership. As a high-end modern furniture, art and lighting dealer (online at V4 Design Specialists), I have always had an appreciation for superb craftsmanship, great aesthetics and exceptional industrial design. To me, this 280SE Mercedes hits the mark in every way. From its big, prominent chrome grill to its gleaming wrap around front and rear bumpers, the car exudes elegance, solidity and a sense of relaxed refinement that is unmatched in our current era of mass produced automobiles. The driving experience is equally pleasurable and rewarding. When you get behind the wheel of the big Mercedes all the clatter and stress of the outside world seems to fade away as you are transported back in time-effortlessly gliding down the roadway. The car has been driven 11,818 miles since it was purchased in 2017 with mechanical refurbishment and maintenance costs totaling $12,943 over the term of ownership and it presents extremely well in person.
