Comments:
This Clean Carfax 1984 Alfa Romeo Spider is a two-seater, front engine, rear wheel - drive roadster with only 45,400 miles showing on the odometer. This driver appears to be rust free with documentation that the clutch was replaced less than 7000 miles ago. It has a 5-Speed manual transmission ( In Alfa typical fashion, second gear is a little tricky) and is Alfa Red with an interior of Saddle Italian Leather and a Black Canvas Convertible Top. Spare tire, jack and current service records are among the items included in the sale. Mechanically it is 126 hsp with its 2.0L (1,962Â cc) DOHC 2 valves ( VVT) per cylinder 4 -cylinder engine. The USA models retained the Bosch L-Jetronic FI. This marvelous sports car has front and rear coil springs and anti-sway bars. The Alfa Romeo was faster than the BMW E30 318 I and a lot more stylist. The Alfa Romeos appearance in the 1967 film, THE GRADUATE, starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft contributed to its iconic mystique. An older woman seduces her daughters younger boyfriend. In an attempt to get his girlfriend back, he speeds in the Alfa Romeo .The car runs out of gas a short distance from the church where his girlfriend is about to marry another suitor.
The Alfa Romeo Badge has some conflicting discussion about its origins. Look closely, you will see a serpent eating a man? A child? “The most interesting legend states that in Lake Gerundo, very near Milan, an enormous snake lived and terrorized the inhabitants of the city by attacking and eating the children and polluting the water with its venom. In a heroic effort, Ottone Visconti, the founder of the family, slayed the snake and adorned his coat of arms with its likeness as a symbol of triumph.
While this is a highly unlikely legend, not to mention a grim one, it serves to add to the aura around one of the world's most storied and historic brands. A little imagination never hurt anyone - unless, of course, you happened to be a child during the era of terror from the giant snake.†Credited to Wikipedia.
Manufactured from 1966 to 1994, the Spider remained in production for almost 30 years. The Italian firm of Pininfarina designed and manufactured the body, as well as final assembly. This Third generation/ Series 3 Spider was introduced in 1982 and was the last project in which founder Battista Pinifarina was involved. The Spider was first launched at the 36th Geneva Motor Show in March 1966
The Series 3 Spider was previewed in North America for the 1982 model year with the introduction of 2.0 liter Bosch electric FI to replace the mechanical injection. In 1983, black rubber front and rear bumpers, a front bumper incorporating the grille, a small soft rubber spoiler added to the rear.
The car is being sold “as isâ€, runs beautifully, except for Alfa crunch into 2nd gear which may be part of the character of this iconic sports car. Priced to sell quickly at $14,500.oo. Please call Suzanne for more info and photos (610)444-2222 or (302)545-3489.
